About Mica

Mica Liberta-Smith is a non-binary baritone based in Cardiff. Mica attended the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating from The David Seligman Opera School with an MA Advanced Opera Performance degree in July 2022. In addition to working as a soloist with choirs and choral societies across the UK, Mica is in great demand as an operatic performer. They are looking forward to performing the role Collatinus in Britten's R*** of Lucretia with British Youth Opera as the only solo cast role in the run of shows.

 

They also recently appeared as Alidoro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola with Barn Opera in Vermont, USA, Germont in Verdi's La Traviata with Arte Lirica Festival in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Debut Opera in London, and Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème performing the role both in London with Debut Classical and with Opera del Mare in Cesenatico, Italy. Mica has performed with the Welsh National Opera’s Youth Opera as Drebyednyetsov in Shostakovich’s comic operetta Cherry Town, Moscow and as Count Heinrich in Judith Weir’s gothic fairy tale opera The Black Spider and is currently developing the role of Frida in The Nine Fridas with Opera Unlimited.

 

In 2020 Mica was privileged to work with Maestro Carlo Rizzi and the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, performing Germond’s aria and duet scene from La Traviata at the Wales Millennium Centre and performed again together 2021. Mica has a wide, diverse repertoire and enjoys sharing the joy of live performance with everyone from seasoned classical audiences to children experiencing their first operas through taster workshops; they also enjoy teaching and leading Masterclasses for gifted young singers, performers and instrumentalists. Mica was Joint Winner Adelina Patti Prize for Bel Canto singing (2020) and Janet Price Opera Prize finalist (2021) and is a founder member of Transgress inclusive opera company. They also work with their spouse Ren Liberta as a Lighting Assistant and Operator.
